Q & A

Yesterday evening I was greeted with a message from an old friend entitled “Fashion Advice”, it read as follows...

Hey Dana!
We are coming to NY for Christmas and doing dinner out. I have no idea what to wear that will be warm but also sophisticated/sexy. Any advice for this warm weather native?

Winter in New York is a gal’s time to shine. Literally! The hottest trends for evening may be all about black, but there is always room for some sparkle. To get this season’s hottest look, put on a pair of black opaque tights. Wolford are my favorite. They look great on, provide enough warmth on a cold winter night and are durable! Shop for a jewel tone dress. I propose something short and clingy. The tights will allow you to show a bit more leg without feeling self conscious or looking too scandalous.

If you are dreaming of a more fashion forward look try a sequin dress or blazer a la Lauren Conrad. Not too keen on the all over look opt for a pair of black skinny jeans and an embellished blouse. Finish off this look with a shrunken blazer, one small enough to fit under a coat. Packing one pair of shoes for nighttime? Black leather booties are the answer. They are definitely more comfy then your stilettos and are still sexy!

To cover up your look a coat is essential, but don’t sweat perfection. Being a warm weather girl I favor warmth over style. Now if you are moving to NYC you should invest in a statement coat, but a weekend getaway is another thing. Most restaurants have coat check at the door which means few people will have the chance to see you all bundled up. If you decide to buy a new coat choose one that is heavy and falls below the knee in a dark color for obvious reasons. You will be happy you opted for the extra weight and length when you are dealing with freezing temperatures. Trust me! A full length coat will never be the most flattering option; if this is a concern select one that nips at the waist.

Finally, on to the accessories. A scarf this time of year is a must, so use this opportunity to have some fun. Try an animal print or a bright fuchsia if you are wearing all black. I tend to leave my scarf on once I am inside so make sure your scarf doesn’t clash with the rest of your outfit. If your look doesn’t have enough sparkle try a large cocktail ring or my favorite look right now a big statement necklace. Don’t be afraid to experiment with these new looks, but you shouldn’t try to pull off all of these trends at the same time. Think…. less is more.

Team Edward and I am not talking about Twilight ladies

Every girl knows the importance of good makeup, whether we want to admit it or not. We’re all slaves to the mirror in the morning, I know I am. Every few months I have to restock. It was on the most recent trip to Bergdorf, where I went for replenishment that I met Edward. After gathering up my usual Khiel’s deodorant and Prescriptive Custom Blend foundation, I hesitantly asked the sales woman, you never know what another woman will suggest, “Can you recommend a great gloss?" To my surprise she said "May I suggest Edward Bess?”

I walked over to the counter and an attractive young man greeted me with a smile. It was Edward Bess himself. Now what is important about this story is that Edward is a mere 23 years old. An alumnus of the performing arts school responsible for the movie Fame, Edward told me he moved to NYC from the Carolinas. We also reminisced about Carowinds a theme park that borders both North and South Carolina a frequent stomping ground during my days at Pinewood a sleep away camp in NC. I found out all this info because, Edward was very chatty, sweet, approachable and of course complimentary. We bonded over facials since he complimented my skin. I told him I had just visited Mario Badescu, a favorite of his as well ( he recommends Leah).
Now onto the goods! As you can see from the photo above I did quite well with Edward. He suggested a pinky gloss for my pale complexion, "Love Always" that I have come to adore. It emphasizes the natural color of my lips and it really stays put. Meaning on my way out the door, I can take the last sip of coffee, kiss my hubby goodbye, and feel confident that I don’t need to reapply before my meeting. Next, I picked up some "All Over Seduction" in "Sunlight". It’s the type of product applied to cheek bones and eyelids that gives those Victoria Secret Models their perfect glow. How did he know I was already attempting to achieve this look with a combo of eye shadows and blushes? Lastly, I scooped up a mascara in black that has proved to be the perfect consistency for daily use. Not too thick nor to thin and not too seductive for day light if you know what I mean...

As you can tell I’m a big fan of Team Edward Bess. His products are only available at Bergdorf Goodman and remember when you go to visit, tell him Dana sent you!

A Call To Service

When asked in a recent interview what advice Oprah would give to women entering the work force she answered…

You should always aim to provide a service to people...

For me my love for clothing, accessories, and of course shoes is more then apparent to those who know me. But for those who do not, following my heart is what lead me to answer my call to service.

On a recent jaunt to South Florida I was enlisted for my first mission. My older sister Sara who is set to marry the man of her dreams in May was going to have to surrender half..... okay maybe 1/3rd of her closet. It is daunting, stressful even emotional at times. Luckily she had me at her service. The process was tedious and on occasion hilarious. Did she really used to wear that??

Not everyone has a sister who can help organize and refocus their wardrobe. Here are few ideas to help you get started on your closet.

-Think about the clothing you wear on a daily basis. For some this could be denim and t-shirts for others it could be suits and button down shirts, regardless move these pieces to the most accessible area in your closet. This allows quick picks in the morning it also keeps you from having to rummage through your entire wardrobe every time you dress for work.

-Gather all evening and "going out" attire and move to the back of your closet. These garments are usually made of more delicate fabrics and don't need to be shuffled through daily. By keeping them in a more protected area you will prolong their longevity.

- Remove all plastic from recently dry cleaned garments this will not only save space, but the plastic traps moisture which can damage fabric lastly remember check that your garment was cleaned properly.

When you are ready for a closet makeover schedule a consultation at DanaRKornfeld@gmail.com

My Life in Numbers

Life in many cases is viewed and judged in numbers. Whether it be your age, height, weight, or salary we are identified by the numbers in our lives. These numbers aren’t necessarily appropriate to discuss, especially when it comes to women. But for me, right now I am ready and willing to discuss my numbers… well most of them.

The most important number today, right now at this very moment is my tax ID number. I am eagerly awaiting this new number that will allow me to start my much anticipated, independently owned and operated small business. Things are about to change in my life. I can almost taste the possibilities that await me. I am about to embark on a path that countless women can only dream of.

My new venture 4sisters1closet is born out of numbers 2 very important numbers. 4 being that I am one of four sisters and 1 being our “shared” closet. Having 3 sisters meant every piece of clothing or accessory was meant for more then just you. It was part of “our “closet whether you wanted it that way or not.

After four years in New York City I have collected many important numbers. I have worked at 6 different companies. Met and married 1 very handsome man. Received 2 beautiful diamond rings. Lived in 3 different NYC apartments. Purchased nearly 50 pairs of shoes, but who is counting….

Most importantly I have kept my sights on 1 very important goal

More to follow……….
